A quiz show airing weekly on Planet Scum Live and performed regularly at Union Hall in Brooklyn, NY. Questions and answers blend actual trivia with Martin’s dark sense of humor creating a satirical, DIY version of the classic Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
Every week, I would spend my time researching trivia and writing clever set-ups that use the question and answer as the punchline. Learning a lot of interesting and inappropriate facts while writing a lot of funny jokes.
Then, all the writers would meet with Martin to pitch jokes, rewrite in the room, and write new material together if necessary.
During each show, I’d pay close attention to the audience’s reactions to each joke. Taking note of what works, what doesn’t, and then applying that knowledge to my next round of writing.
During its run, Who Wants $2.69 gained a loyal following and was written up in VICE and The New York Times.
